About CADA

The Canadian Academy of Dental Anaesthesia (CADA) was founded on October 1, 1994.

Mission Statement

The mission of this Academy is to promote excellence in anaesthesia in dentistry and represent dentists who have postgraduate training in anaesthesia, and to support and encourage the clinical practice of anaesthesia by these practitioners in order to facilitate patient pursuit of optimal oral health.

Goals

The goals of the Academy are to:

  • Pursue excellence in the standards of practice of anaesthesia in dentistry.
  • Encourage the availability of the complete spectrum of anaesthesia care for dental patients.
  • Encourage the training of dentists to provide the complete spectrum of anaesthesia care.
  • Develop and support the recognition of anaesthesia as a dental specialty.
  • Pursue the interests of Canadian dentists who qualify as specialists in this discipline.
  • Meet for the purposes of disseminating progress in the field of advanced techniques in anaesthesia, patient management and pain control.
  • Inform its members of current matters of interest related to anaesthesia in dentistry.
  • Communicate matters of members' concern to other organizations, as required.

Membership Information

Membership in the Canadian Academy of Dental Anaesthesia is limited to dentists who have successfully completed a formal postgraduate course of training in anaesthesia as it applies to dentistry, consistent with Part 2 of the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry Guidelines for Teaching the Comprehensive Control of Pain and Anxiety at The Advanced Education Level. (The duration of this training must be a minimum of 24 months if completed after 1984. For those who completed their training in or prior to 1984, the duration of this training must be a minimum of 12 months). Dentists who are currently enrolled in a postgraduate dental anaesthesia program of a minimum of 2 years duration may also join as a resident member. Honorary members are persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of dental anaesthesia (nominated by an active member and approved by two thirds majority at a general meeting).

Annual membership dues are $150 or $300 if you also wish to attend the annual meeting. Dues are paid securely on-line via PayPal or credit card. (The dues are waived for resident and honorary members) You will automatically be directed to PayPal upon registration.
